How can we resolve this issue?

Also now you haven't warned me so I haven't made a recent backup of the site and all is broken

If i do not use theme 4 then the images do not resize... they stay transparent and huge... None of the settings work:

This is now a complete mess.

This is a very serious situation... I need it to look like theme 4 with the image on the left 150x150 and the text on the right. with the Read more button.
